Shanghai

I moved to Shanghai in early January 2020. Just in time to see the COVID-19 pandemic develop in Wuhan and spread eventually across the world. I witnessed the closing down of Shanghai and used time to explore and document the empty streets. As China successfully began to reopen the country I witnessed and documented the city coming back to life. Once again I was able to visit the gardens, museums and other attractions. My photo walks are the inspiration of my next body of work of paintings and drawings of architecture, gardens and old lane neighborhoods of Shanghai. The following paintings and drawing are mostly studies of Lane neighborhoods scheduled for the wrecking ball. These studies may or may not become future works.
